Detroit wants Maeda.
“The Detroit Tigers are very interested in Genta Maeda,” MLB Trade Rumors (MLBTR) reported on Nov. 22, citing the Detroit Free Press.
“Detroit believes Maeda can provide stability to a young rotation of pitchers,” MLBTR said, “and hopes the signing of Maeda will help pave the way for future acquisitions of Japanese pitchers.”
With Eduardo Rodriguez, who signed a five-year deal prior to the 2022 season, opting out after two years and heading back to free agency, Detroit is now left with only young arms in the rotation. They have a number of talented young pitchers, including Tarik Skubal, Casey Mays, Matt Manning, and Reese Olson, but no veteran to anchor the rotation.
With 190 games and 866.1 innings pitched in seven big league seasons, Maeda has the experience to lead the rotation. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2022, Maeda returned this year and went 6-8 with a 4.23 ERA in 21 games and 104.1 innings pitched. At 35 years old, he’s a bit older, but he’s more than capable of leading the rotation when healthy.
Maeda is no stranger to the American League Central, having spent the 2020-2023 season with the Minnesota Twins. His career record at Comerica Park was solid, with a 3.44 ERA in six starts. 보스토토 도메인
Meanwhile, Maeda, born in 1988, debuted with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016 and has pitched 190 games and 866.1 innings in seven big league seasons, posting a 65-49 record and a 3.92 ERA.
